The Nook
The Village Hall Committee look after a public parcel of land locally known as The Nook. This is used by local people to play games and have picnics. Trees and seeds are being planted on part of this land to encourage wildlife to return and flourish.
Sowing the Seeds
Wildflower seeds have been sown in the grass verges at the side of the road passing though the village.
Hedgehogs Crossing
Considered a gardener’s best friend, hedgehogs will happily hoover up insects roaming in vegetable beds. Famously covered in spines, hedgehogs like to eat all sorts of bugs and crunchy beetles. They are most active at night and hibernate through winter. Hedgehogs can travel around a mile every night, so they may need help to get into and out of your garden, and crossing roads.
Sadly, the hedgehog population in our country has fallen dramatically. There are many fatalities on our roads. There natural defence of curling into a ball does not protect them from a heavy and menacing car Wortwell parish Council are keen to protect these wonderful creatures and would like drivers to be aware that they may be crossing our road and slow down in our village.
